You should read this first before inspecting this graphic.

To ensure that my TAZ geocoder found the correct Traffic Analysis Zone for the address I submitted, I took the resulting ID, 294518, and searched for that in the GIS shapefile within the free and open-source QGIS application.

Yep, that's about the location of 3201 S Halsted!

The United States Census Bureau manages the TAZ boundaries and designations, but I think the local MPOs and DOTs can change them.

Neodesha Daily Sun, Thursday, Dec. 22, 1906, Pg. 3
Vol. VIII, No. 39

JOHN BAKER KEYS.
______

John B. Keys, one of the most widely known and highly respected citizens of Neodesha, is no more, having died at his home at the corner of 3d and Mill streets, Wednesday, Dec. 12, 1906, at 7:55 p. m. He had been in declining health for some months, his condition at times threatening the worst. Being quite sick for two or three weeks, a fatal culmination was regarded probable, but the sudden end which came was unexpected and produced a shock to relatives and friends. The funeral was held Saturday at the residence, conducted by Rev. C. P. Dubois, of the Presbyterian church and the attendance was large. Interment was made in the city cemetery. At the grave the old soldiers of Humphrey Post, of which the departed was a member, performed the last sad rites in a very solemn and impressive manner, the burial service being according to the ritual of that veteran organization.
John Baker Keys was born at Bladensburg, Knox county, Ohio, July 27, 1838, thus making him at his death 68 years, 4 months and 15 days of age. He came West in 1860, locating at LeRoy, Kansas, and August 3, 1861, at Leavenworth, he enlisted in Company E, Fifth Kansas Cavalry, in which he served until September 8, 1864, when he was honorably discharged from the army. October 7, 1867, Mr. Keys was married to Miss Belle John, who survive him, together with two sons and three daughters, as follows: Mrs. Minnie E. Lowder of Martinsville, Ind.; Frank W. Keys, Mrs. S. E. Stephens, John Earl Keys and Miss Besse Keys of Neodesha. Mr. and Mrs. Keys were the first white couple married in Neodesha township.
In the early history of Neodesha Mr. Keys figured quite conspicuously. In 1867 Dr. Allen McCartey formed a partnership with Alexander K. Phelon and they erected a large log cabin near the foot of Little Bear Mound, less than one mile from the present site of Neodesha, and opened a trading post, or supply depot, for the Osage Indians, on whose reservation the post was located. Recognizing the natural advantages of the Verdigris and Fall rivers—the two partners, with John B. Keys and Robert Futhey, who arrived at the trading post in October, 1868, formed a town company and purchased the original townsite of Neodesha, paying therefore 0.00. This was the signal for wild excitemet and all claims near that of Keys and Futhey were held at enormous figures. The survey of the townsite took place July 12 and 13, 1869. The town company gave away many lots to persons who would build thereon. Dr. McCartney still resides here and he is the only surviving member of the original townsite company.
Keys and Futhey erected a flouring mill on the Verdigris river north of the wagon bridge, just southeast of town in the spring of 1871, which they operated for a number of years, the mill finally burning down in 1888. Mr. Keys was mayor of Neodesha in 1886 and for one or two other terms. He was owner and manager of an extensive lumber yard here in the 80s. He had always been interested in various enterprises and at his death was president of the V. V. V. Brick & Tile Co. and the Neodesha Crystal Ice Co., being president of both since they were organized. Mr. Keys leaves to his devoted wife and children four or five hundred acres of valuable farm land within two miles of Neodesha, besides about thirty choice business and residence lots in this city. In 1903 he engaged in the oil business and developed his own farms, sinking 17 wells, of which 14 were paying producers. These wells are now being pumped.
In the death of Mr. Keys the community loses one of its very earliest settlers and most substantial citizens. He was an honest, conscientious man, true to his convictions, always advocating and standing up for what he believed to be just and right. As a husband and father to those left behind his memory will be cherished to the end.

The haunted remains of American Box Company, a place I worked for a few weeks in searing hot sun, in August 1986, in just incredible heat! The huge open sheds in the back are all that remain and used to be behind the main facility and truckyard, and was a weird hiding place from the boss, where you would pause a moment, and gaze in wonder at what a weird world you're in. Closed long before official recession but a victim of the "pre-recession" when everything was relocating to China to maximize profits, American Box was simply a "wood products" company, and this Fresno facility specialized in packing crates for grapes.

I dont get this. I was reading the post on the MySpace lawsuit and tried to get to the main technology page. 1st time it worked and I noticed that they were using BlogBurst, so I wanted to see how they reformatted Jeff Clavier's post, but instead I got this "register to see our content" screen. In trying to reload the prior post in the same window, it reloaded the registration screen instead.

After poking around a bit more, I went in through the front door of the site and was able to get to the article ultimately.

What sort of business rules are they using here? Still some sites out there that are trying hard, but just missing the point I guess. Either that or another case of "Technology Gone Wild!"

About James Schouw

Award winning Yaletown developer James Schouw is a designer, green-minded builder, philanthropist, and community visionary. A building by James Schouw looks unlike any other, anywhere else in the world. James is influenced by early Vancouver architecture with neo-classical elements but his designs are truly original and eclectic.

James oversees all aspects of his developments, from conception, to design, to construction. His timeless design with attention to detail and cutting edge construction, has created a devoted following. His buildings are on the ‘must-see’ list of Vancouver architecture and it’s a common site to see people taking pictures of his buildings. The beauty of his buildings have turned them into Habitable Art, art that people live in.

Best known for the dramatic style of his buildings, James is changing the way buildings are built and raising the bar for environmental sensitivity with his innovative designs. His landmark Grace building, at 1280 Richards, is the first high rise in the city to have been conceived with energy efficient geothermal heating, a technology that saves on heating costs, produces minimal greenhouse gases and has set the standard for other high end projects. The carbon emission reduction for Grace is the equivalent of taking 100 cars off the road annually. In addition to the Geothermal heating system, his projects incorporate a rainwater recovery system. He has also installed a fingerprint recognition security system that ensures only inhabitants gain entrance.

Creating buildings with a reduced environmental footprint is a reflection of James’ overall development philosophy. He has sense of responsibility to enhance the community and give back to society. A minimum of 50% of each year’s net corporate and personal income will be donated to humanitarian efforts over a ten-year period. Charity work is ingrained into his company’s values and culture.

Born in Winnipeg and raised in Vancouver, James studied physics at university but became fascinated with construction after spending time helping his architect father at a construction site. A natural entrepreneur he left school to start a successful ice cream distribution business and to pursue his interest in design and construction. His own dissatisfaction with what he saw on the market prompted him to build his first multifamily development, Iliad. James is a long time resident of Yaletown and always resides in the projects he creates so that they have the liveability that he would expect in a home.

James’ Grace building was awarded the 2008 Georgie Award for High Rise of the Year, was a nominee for best multi-family housing for the national SAM awards, and was a finalist for the international SPARK design awards. James is a past winner of Business in Vancouver’s 40 under 40 Award and he has been featured on CBC Television’s “Living Vancouver”, HGTV’s Lofty Ideas, and CKNW’s “Adler Online”. He is an occasional contributor to Business in Vancouver Magazine, writing articles giving his thoughtful perspective on Vancouver’s housing industry.
