______________________________

The Centro neighbourhood of Rio de Janeiro is the historic centre and financial centre of the city.[1]. It is also popularly called Central and Central do Brasil. Sites of interest include the Paço Imperial, Candelária Church, the Old Cathedral of Rio de Janeiro, and the modern-style Rio de Janeiro Cathedral. Around the Cinelândia square there are several landmarks of the Belle Epoque such as the Municipal Theatre and the national Library building. The Centro area also has several museums such as the National Museum of Fine Arts and the National Historical Museum. Other important historical attractions in central Rio include its Passeio Público, an 18th-century public garden, as well as the imposing arches of the Carioca Aqueduct. A bondinho (tram) leaves from a city center station, crosses the aqueduct (converted to a tram viaduct in 1896) and rambles through the hilly streets of the Santa Teresa neighbourhood nearby.

Downtown remains the heart of the city's business community. Some of the largest companies in Brazil have their head offices here, including Petrobras, Eletrobrás and Vale. Most of Rio's skyscrapers, especially the tallest ones, are located in this neighbourhood.

The following text is a copy/paste of some un-copyrighted interesting stuff to taste and enjoy:

---

Excerpt from Leo Babauta's blog:

I am not a brewer

I’ve been learning a bit about beers lately (and enjoying the learning process) and on the top beer ratings sites a beer from the Westvleteren Brewery tops the rankings.

It’s a Belgium beer brewed by monks who absolutely fascinate me. They brew the best beer in the world and yet seem to care nothing about business. As their beer has gained fame they refuse to raise production to meet demand. They refuse to market their beers and have no label on their bottles. They do no advertising and don’t allow interviews or tours of their brewery — you can visit a visitors’ center across the street but they don’t want to be bothered. You can only buy two cases at a time and you have to drive to their brewery to get it — and only after reserving via phone.

They are crazy dudes but I love them. They are not interested in making money or fame or accomplishments. They just want to be monks.

Father Abbott said on the occasion of the consecration of their new brewery “But we do not live ‘for’ our brewery. This must be strange for business people and difficult to understand that we do not exploit our commercial assets as much as we can.”

He went on to say “We are no brewers. We are monks. We brew beer to be able to afford being monks.”

I’m with him.

4. "It is proper for you, Kalamas, to doubt, to be uncertain;
uncertainty has arisen in you about what is doubtful.

Come, Kalamas. Do not go upon what has been acquired by repeated
hearing; nor upon tradition; nor upon rumor; nor upon what is in a
scripture; nor upon surmise; nor upon an axiom; nor upon specious
reasoning; nor upon a bias towards a notion that has been pondered
over; nor upon another's seeming ability; nor upon the

these things are censured by the wise; undertaken and observed, these things lead to harm and ill,'
abandon them.

Obviously before the last Conclave:

... Over the last few weeks some have asked who I think the next Pope would be. I have stated all along that I had three or four favorites judging by how evil this church needs to get next if they hope to enforce their mark. Out of those favorites I saw two that stand out rather boldly. Cardinal Francis Arinze, a black man who declared openly Christ is not needed to gain Heaven. And Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger who heads the office of Inquisition that Pope John Paul II re-instated back in February of 1991, who also declared Christ not needed. I have said repeatedly that if there were only these two to choose from, I am positive Ratzinger would get the vote. As some of you that frequent the POGM Chat rooms know, I started the research a few days before Ratzinger was elected because I felt he was going to get to the job. Why? He was a Nazi soldier as well as one of Hitler’s youth. You do the math. To have a man with such an evil past as his, one can only assume he is Rome’s favourite. A babe in Christ that studies prophecy could have figured this one out. Looking to John Paul II and the fact he sold cyanide to the Nazi’s for killing Jews, one can see it’s a good bet they would elect Ratzinger all along. In fact, there were many articles in the media beforehand proclaiming him the favorite to win. And we all thought it was a SECRET conclave eh? ...

Pope John Paul II: Zyklon B Salesman
by TONY BUSHBY

In his book 'Behold a Pale Horse,' former US Naval Intelligence Officer William Cooper relates a story associated with the IG Farben Chemical Company.

In the early 1940s, that company employed a Polish chemist and salesman who sold cyanide gas, Zyklon B and Malathion to the Nazis for extermination of groups of people in Auschwitz.

After the war the salesman joined the Catholic church and was ordained a priest.

In 1958 he became Poland's youngest bishop and after Pope John Paul I's mysterious death [... After a 30-day reign his predecessor was assassinated and ... -William Cooper, BEHOLD A PALE HORSE, (Light Technology Publishing, 1991), pp.89-90. ... ], the ex-cyanide gas salesman Karol Wojtyla was elected to the papacy as Pope John Paul II in October 1978.

In March 2000, he publicly apologized not for his war effort, but for the wickedness of the Christian religion. The plea for forgiveness also sought to pardon the use of 'violence in the service of truth' an often used fragile and treoubling referenece to the Inquisition.

The apology read by the Pope was the result of four years of work by a panel of 28 theologians and scholars and was by far the most sweeping act by a leader of a major religion.

On few occasions have ecclesiastical authorities ever acknowlegdegd the faults or abuses of which they themselves were guilty. There was concern that the apology was a major theological miscalculation that could undermine the Pope's weakening authority and the unanswered question posed by the international media was --
'In whose name was the Pope asking for forgiveness?' (Excerpted from 'The Crucifixion of Truth' by Tony Bushby)

Saje v reviji Jana (26.10.2004) pojasnjeval to tematiko.

This week's podcast is all about how to launch a citizen journalism website that actually gets read. Joining us this week are the creators of In This Economy, I Live in Dallas, and Five O'Clock Dallas. During the podcast, they all share their experiences, from the inspiration behind launching the sites, to the tools used for marketing and promotion, and even some unexpected results.

About In-This-Economy.com:
www.in-this-economy.com is a blog designed to take the ridiculousness of the economy and spin it into something that can entertain and even distract folks from their problems for a while. We cover everything from national news to free stuff to completely random Internet finds. We rant and rave about the economy, and when we’re not crying we’re laughing. ITE’s co-creators are art director Rondo Estrello (@rondostar) and copywriters Rachel Pinn (@rachcreative) and Derek Rundgren (@drocolate). Our other contributors include Stephanie Berlin (@sberlin), Logan Finklestein and Zack McLain (@SurlyZ). We’re also (clearly) passionate social media advocates. Follow ITE on Twitter at @inthiseconomy.

About FiveO'ClockDallas.com
Five O'Clock Dallas is a community website for Dallas bars and happy hour listings, that tries to take the work out of the after work drink. Five O'Clock Dallas goes beyond simple bar and happy hour listings by providing video reviews, news, events, and a new series called Happy Hour at Home. Five O'Clock Dallas focuses on showing people that it's possible to have some classy fun in Dallas without breaking your budget. The website was founded at the end of 2008 when co-creators Colin Alsheimer (@levelten_colin and Alyssa Gardina (@agardina couldn't find a good resource online for finding happy hours in Dallas. Five O'Clock Dallas can be found on Twitter (@dallashappyhour) and Facebook.

About ILiveInDallas.com
ILiveinDallas was launched in March 2008 to promote art and culture events in Dallas, Texas. Dallas is beginning to be recognized as a centerpiece in the US for hosting world-renowned artists, intellectuals, musicians and activists in the city. With many resources in the Dallas area for like events, ILiveinDallas stands out to be the go-to calendar for young thinking professionals interested in the ideas and culture of many. The goal is to get people out of their house and experience the world, without having to pay for the ticket around the world. The Creator of ILiveinDallas, Jennifer Conley, is an advocate for local arts and education. Danville IL - Bresee Tower, 4 N. Vermilion St. (1 of 3)

A few nice business register images I found:

Danville IL - Bresee Tower, 4 N. Vermilion St. (1 of 3)
business register
Completed in 1918 by the First National Bank of Danville, this 12-story "fireproof" building was built at a cost of 0,000, and remained the home of FNB until 1955. The bank occupied the first floor, mezzanine and lower level. Upper floors were occupied by the offices of doctros, dentists, lawyers, stock brokers, and loan companies.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 2000, Bresee Tower looks like a structure that is in bad need of repair. Vacant since 2005, in recent years barricades were placed on the south and east sides of the tower due to concern over falling debris. Today strapping and plywood is seen on the exterior to limit the potential of falling pieces of terra cotta.

Over the past two years, work has been completed to deal with the most hazardous aspects of the structure. While the future of this landmark remains uncertain, restoring and converting the property into some type of mixed use space is a possibility.

The City of Danville is the seat of Vermilion County, and is located in East Central Illinois near the Indiana border. The population of Danville was 33,027 as of the 2010 census.

More photographs of Danville can be found in my "Danville IL" set.

Automobile Photographs: This is a very large collection of images whose primary, but not exclusive, focus is on American automotive classics. Images are organized by decade, by manufacturer, and by topics (such as convertibles, station wagons, muscle cars, etc.)

Central Illinois (except Springfield): Central Illinois (except Springfield): Photos relating to the middle section of the "Land of Lincoln" (except for the Capital City of Springfield) may be found in this collection. Every city and town I've photographed is contained within its own set, and rural (as in "countryside") photographs are grouped by county.

Springfield, Illinois: All of my photographs of Springfield and the Abraham Lincoln Sites are in this collection. For the City of Springfield, there are separate sets for the Capitol Complex, Downtown (including the Old State Capitol), Neighborhoods, Parks, Illinois State Fairgrounds (and past State Fairs), and more. Photographs of Lincoln sites include the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, Lincoln Home National Historic Site, Lincoln Tomb, and so on. Also in the Lincoln "All About Abe" (Set) are a few Lincoln sites not located in Springfield.

The Illinois State Fair: My collection of photographs of the Illinois State Fair. The fair offers something for everyone. Grab a corn dog and lemon shake-up, and come take a look!

Beyond Central Illinois: Other locales in the United States and Canada including New York, Chicago, San Francisco and Seattle.

In addition to my location-based sets, here are links to some "topical" collections and sets I've put together:

Barbers & Barber Shops: Traditional barbers and barber shops are on the endangered species list. But there are still plenty to be found if you go looking for them.

Almost Everything Else. Check It Out!!!: Included topics range from man's first walk on the moon to small town schools and churches, and from Soft-Coated Wheaten Terriers (our favorite breed) to things that are abandoned, neglected, weathered, or rusty.

Thanks for stopping by! - myoldpostcards (Randy von Liski)

Candid of the man who handles the luggage at Beograd/Belgrade train station.

Looks more sketchy than that.

Call me cheeky, but I get kicks of wide angle sneek photography.

The other dealer is guttorm.gundersen

I really like the framing in this one.

State Senator Joseph J. Crisco, Jr.(center) vice-chair of the legislature's Commerce Committee, tours Test Logic, a Middletown-based company, on July 15, 2013 and learns about the technology engaged by the company to evaluate high performance engines. Test Logic hopes to capitalize on Connecticut's revitalized emphasis on exporting goods and services. Senator Crisco was joined on the tour by Senator Paul Doyle (left) and other officials to underscore provisions of Public Act 13-56, which allows the state Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD) commissioner, when approving applications for Small Business Express Program loans and grants, to give priority to companies in precision manufacturing, business services, sustainable technology, bioscience, and information technology. It additionally allows priority to businesses seeking to export their products or services to foreign markets.
