While at the Serramonte Mall this evening we stopped into Mervyn's, which was in the final moments of its "Going Out Of Business" sale.
The store was completely picked over. Shoppers riffled through the few remaining bins and racks like vultures on a carcass. Even the display showcases were being offered up for sale.
At one point a voice came over the PA to announce that the store would be closing for good in ten minutes, and that everything left was now "Ten for .00".
It was a sad and surreal experience to be there as the retail giant literally gasped its last breath.
