Funky lunch
catering business
There's a restaurant called "Funkychef" in Pyrmont towards the Northwestern end of Harris Street (Close to the Casino). It is actually a catering business, website and alter-ego of one Lee Hardy.

They produce a t/a "Funky Lunchbox". Which contains varying things, which of late have been 2 "sandwichy things", 1 big or 2 small ricepaper rolls, a savoury tart of varying genres and a fruit kebab (With some pretty derned nice fruit on it!).

It's superb value and the quality is absolutely first rate.

Not open Monday lunchtime, alas.

Clarence Cowart holds a jar of his homemade CC’s Home-style BBQ Sauce, which he prepares in the incubator kitchen at the East Baker Historical Society Community Center in Newton, Baker County, GA on Mar. 7, 2013. The East Baker Historical Society Community Center secured a U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development (RD) Community Facilities (CF) Loan for the kitchen that enabled residents to prepare catered meals and to prepare and package food products. The USDA Strike Force Initiative has designated Baker County, GA as a Strike Force county selected to receive assistance to relieve persistent poverty in historically high-poverty counties. Southwest view of the Bath County Agricultural Education and Marketing Center, Owingsville, KY, on Friday, July 15, 2011. The adjoined buildings are the Education Center (right with two windows), commercial kitchen with two catering loading docks (far right), Kentucky Market Pavilion (center), and the Bath County Cooperative Extension (left). The farmer's market and produce auction facilities are behind these buildings. The Center was the recipient of a 0,000 Rural Business Enterprise Grant. It has given farmers and producers from Bath and surrounding counties the opportunity to manufacture and market their locally grown and locally produced value-added and “Kentucky Proud” branded products, including but not limited to, fresh produce, artisan crafts and specialty food products. The Center is open year-round and allow residents to sell products in four different retail categories, including Kentucky products, regional crafts, “green” groceries and bakery/deli. Several producers expressed their gratitude for Rural Development’s assistance in making the center a reality. The project was made possible through American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 funding enacted by the 111th United States Congress in February 2009 and signed into law on February 17, 2009, by President Barack Obama. YOU'RE BETTER OFF AT AARON'S

This is probably my favorite sign ever. I noticed it, at the corner of 5th Ave and 17th St in South Slope, Brooklyn, the first time I ever came into the neighborhood. I love that it's painted, all kinds of assumptions it makes in so few words and most of all, the fact that Aaron's has been shut down for about five years now. I think it was some kind of ladies' department store, possibly one catering to older/Orthodox women.

When I boarded the subway at Waterfront Station, in SW, I'd take at seat and began to prepare my camera equipment a man, sitting next to me, would look at me and say 'Hey, how are ya?". It was Chef Mario Bush, who I met many years ago when I worked with Susan Gage Caterers . www.SusanGage.com . Actor and Drama professor Ken Bush and I were amongst the very first to work with Susan Gage in March 1987 when she launched her catering business which is now ranked amongst the top 5 caterers in the WDC area.

While I do not now remember exactly when Mario would join Susan Gage, I believe it was sometimes in the late 90's or early new millennium what I do remember is the Mario was an experienced chef and qucikly would move up in the ranks. Which, in the WDC caterering idustry is no small feat. Another aspect of Mario that I respected was the fact that he was not like some of the other chefs where he would only perform as a chef. Perhaps, more indicative of caterers of color, you';ll find that Mario is just as adepth as a chef as he is in all aspects of the catering and event coordinating industry.

So, early on, though we was a trained chef, he would also accept assignments as a waiter, bartender or pantry support.

As time passed I would see Mario at other caterers, including Occasions Caterers . www.OccasionsCaterers.com with whom I had a long standing association with.

In fact, in years past, Independence Day Weekend had been a holiday that I would work from dawn to dusk and perhaps later on the National Mall with Occasions. 4 july is often the last weekend that work is available for caterers in the WDC area until after Labor Day Weekend.

Though, a few of use would have work throughout the summer, it was between 4 july and Labor day that caterering staff would take some time off and caterers would make changes, internally, for the fall.

When I happened upon Mario Bush on the subway on 3 July he was in the midst of writing up a menu proposal. Perhaps several. When I inquired he said that while he still associates with several catererers, including Dish Caterers . www.DishCaterers.com he now has many of his own clients and operates a full service catering and event planning business.

Catering can be a very profitable business in WDC but in order to be successful one has to be able to deliver beyond and above. These are qualities that I would first observe of Mario Bush, many years ago, when I first observed him at Susan Gage Caterers . www.SusanGage.com .

To reach Mario Bush at Catering By Mario, a full service catering & event planning networking business, call 301-209-0596. If he, himnself, is not available, he can network to find someone who is.
