Brimstone is an advanced air-launched anti-tank guided missile developed by MBDA.

The missile's advanced sensor package includes its millimetric wave radar (MMW), which allows the weapon to image the target, thus finding the most effective location on the target to impact. The bandwidth of the MMW radar also makes it less susceptible to inclement weather. With as many as twenty-four missiles in the air, the missile's targeting system also required an algorithm to ensure that missiles impact their targets in a staggered order, rather than all simultaneously. In addition to the semi-autonomous ability to decide its own targets, the Brimstone has the capacity to determine where on a target to best impact causing damage or elimination of the target. ...

Robie House and The Graduate School of Business, Chicago, IL
find a business
A panoramic shot of Frank Lloyd Wright's Robie House and its neighbor, the University of Chicago's Graduate School of Business, designed by Rafael Viñoly Architects and completed in 2004.

Viñoly was particularly concerned with the context of the new school, bordered on one side by one of Frank Lloyd Wright's master works, and on the other by the gothic-style Rockefeller Chapel, with its tall carillon.

Viñoly's design is centered around a quad enclosed in a greenhouse, the Winter Garden, who's vertical thrust follows the proportions of the lancet windows of the chapel. The roof structure is a quadripartite, pointed vault, built with tubular steel members that also reflects gothic style.

To bring the building down in scale and to let Frank Lloyd Wright's work breathe, Viñoly set back each floor, reducing the perceived mass of the building from street–level, and reflecting the residential building across the street.

More about Viñoly's building can be found here: www.rvapc.com/ht/HTProject.aspx?Base=Projects&projID=379

The original size allows viewers to see in clearer detail.

Birdy's Back!
find a business
She was found trotting down Homer Street near the Cooks River and picked up.

She was treated for a minor laceration on her foreleg at Stanmore Animal Hospital and kept there over night.

I found her this morning by ringing around once business hours started. Microchip proved useless, again.

She's tired and cuddly and will be stitched up today. She'll be home tonight with a cool scar and a tough story.

Thank you all for your support and help in the last 15 hours!

A view of the Mount Olive Business District looking east on W. Main St. from Walnut St. In the distance is the steeple of Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Mount Olive is a city in Macoupin County. It is located about fifty miles south of Springfield, and about forty miles northeast of St. Louis on I-55. Mount Olive lies along Historic U.S. Route 66. The population was 2,150 at the 2000 census.

More images of Mount Olive may be found in my "Mount Olive IL" (Set).

Central Illinois (except Springfield): Photos relating to the middle section of the "Land of Lincoln" (except for the Capital City of Springfield.) Every city and town I've photographed is contained within its own set, and rural (as in "counrtyside") photographs are grouped by county.

Springfield, Illinois: All of my photographs of Springfield and the Abraham Lincoln Sites are in this collection. For the City of Springfield, there are separate sets for the Capitol Complex, Downtown (including the Old State Capitol), Neighborhoods, Parks, Illinois State Fairgrounds (and past State Fairs), and more. Photographs of Lincoln sites include the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, Lincoln Home National Historic Site, Lincoln Tomb, and so on. Also in the Lincoln "All About Abe" (Set) are a few Lincoln sites not located in Springfield.

Beyond Central Illinois: Other locales in the United States and Canada including New York, Chicago, San Francisco and Seattle.

In addition to my location-based sets, here are links to some "topical" collections and sets I've put together:

Automobile Photograph Collection: This is a very large collection of images whose primary, but not exclusive, focus is on American automotive classics. Images are organized by decade, by manufacturer, and by topics (such as convertibles, station wagons, muscle cars, etc.)

Barbers & Barber Shops: Traditional barbers and barber shops are on the endangered species list. But there are still plenty to be found if you go looking for them.

Almost Everything Else. Check It Out!!!: Included topics range from man's first walk on the moon to small town schools and churches, and from Soft-Coated Wheaten Terriers (our favorite breed) to things that are abandoned, neglected, weathered, or rusty.
